Baseball Drops Twin Bill at Murray State on Saturday

Peacocks fell 13-1 and 10-3

MURRAY, KY – The Saint Peter's baseball dropped both games of Saturday's twin bill at Murray State. The Peacocks suffered setbacks of 13-1 and 10-3.
 
Game 1
  • Saint Peter's gave up three runs in the second inning and four in the third, to fall behind 7-0.
  • It wasn't until the fourth when the Peacocks got their first hit and run. 
  • Leadoff batter, John Gavura was walked to get on base. Gavura then advanced to second following a ground out. 
  • Joey Vitiello picked up the team's first hit and RBI with a double to left field, scoring Gavura.
  • Murray St. added four more runs over the game's final three innings, leading to the 11-1 defeat in seven innings.
 
Game 2
  • The Peacocks started sluggish in game two, giving up all 10 runs through the first three innings of the contest.
  • In the sixth, the Peacocks attempted a comeback with a three-run, four-hit inning.
  • The rally began when Gavura hit the squad's first home run of the season, sending a bomb over the left field wall.
  • Chris Marquart reached base on a wild pitch followed by a single from Sam Delcollo, putting two on.
  • Anthony Ramos then singled to right center, scoring Marquart for the team's second run.
  • The third run crossed home plate by way of a sacrifice fly hit by Jesse Matos, which allowed Delcollo to tag up and score from third base.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • In game one, the Peacocks finished with three total hits. Hits were recorded by Ramos, Hunter Mason, and Vitiello. 
  • In game two, Saint Peter's produced eight hits. 
  • In addition to his homer, Gavura went 2-for-2 at the plate with a single and walk, while Delcollo was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Andrew Veit, Vitiello, and Ramos each hit an identical 1-for-3 at the plate. 
  • Runs were batted in by Gavura, Ramos, and Matos. 
  • Runs were scored by Gavura, Marquart, and Delcollo.
