Baseball Drops Contest at Kennesaw State

Peacocks fall 15-7 on the road

KENNESAW, GA – The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped a decision to Kennesaw State on Saturday afternoon, falling 15-7.
 
How it Happened
  • Saint Peter's scored two runs to start the game in the top of the first inning.
  • Leadoff batter Anthony Ramos got on base by way of a walk following a full count, to get the Peacocks going.
  • Andrew Connor got the Peacocks' first hit of the day with a double, advancing Ramos to third base. 
  • A wild pitch got the first run on the board, scoring Ramos and advancing Connor to third. 
  • Hunter Mason then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Connor and giving Saint Peter's a 2-0 lead.
  • John Gavura then hit a single to right field followed by a Nicholas Sciubba single to right field to put two on with one out. 
  • The next two Peacock batters both struck out to end the inning with the lead. 
  • Saint Peter's held Kennesaw St. scoreless in the first, only allowing one runner to get on base by way of a walk to end the inning. 
  • The Peacocks garnered another hit by Joey Vitiello, but left him on base after the next three batters were retired, still holding a 2-0 advantage.
  • Kennesaw St. exploded for four runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 4-2 lead over Saint Peter's.
  • The Peacocks would knot the match in the top of the third with two runs. 
  • Mason drew a walk and then stole second ahead of a Jesse Matos being hit by a pitch. 
  • Both runners advanced when a wild pitch accorded putting runners on second and third with two outs.
  • Chris Marquart then hit a two-run RBI, driving in both Mason and Matos to tie the game at 4-4. 
  • Kennesaw St. regained the lead with six combined runs in the fourth and fifth, going up 10-4.
  • In the top of the six inning, Saint Peter's cut into the lead with a three hit three run frame. 
  • With two on and no outs, Andrew Veit grounded out, earning an RBI when Marquart scored from third base. 
  • Then Ramos hit a sacrifice fly that drove in Vitiello from third.
  • The final run of the inning came when Mason hit an RBI single to right center that scored Connor, cutting the score to 10-7.
  • The score would remain the same until the eighth when Kennesaw St. added five insurance runs.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Saint Peter's tripled its runs from opening day, earning nine total on Saturday.
  • Connor was the team leader in hits, going 2-for-2 at the plate, and scoring a team-high two runs.
  • Mason and Marquart both recorded two RBIs to lead the squad, while Ramos and Veit each picked up one RBI.
  • Right-handed pitcher Stephen Carbonara went 4.0 innings, earning two strikeouts.
  • In relief, Joe Albinia and Bryan Guzman combined for 4.0 innings striking out two batters.
