GAME NOTES

Opening Word:
  • The Saint Peter's University women's basketball team will wrap up its trip to Western New York on Saturday with a contest against Canisius College. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
  • During their last time out, the Peacocks nearly completed an 18-point comeback against Niagara on Jan. 23 before ultimately falling to the Purple Eagles, 97-89.
  • Redshirt junior Taiah Thornton set a new season-high in scoring, dropping 25 points in the affair while shooting an impressive 58.8 percent from the floor and 71.4 percent from deep.
  • Two Peacocks recorded double-double performances against the Purple Eagles, with sophomore Wil'lisha Jackson tying her season-best 16 points while grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds, and classmate Briyanah Richardson finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
History with the Golden Griffins:
  • The Peacocks and the Golden Griffins will face off across from each other in the 65th meeting between the two sides on Saturday afternoon.
  • Canisius holds a narrow lead in the all-time series, as Saint Peter's enters this weekend's matchup with a 30-34 record against the Buffalo school.
  • However, the Peacocks have dropped the past 14 contests against the Golden Griffins; the last Saint Peter's victory was on the road on Feb. 7, 2013.
  • The two teams last met on the hardwood on Feb. 2, 2019, when Saint Peter's fell to Canisius by means of a 78-59 decision in Buffalo.
Getting Back on Track:
  • The Peacocks' Jan. 23 matchup against Niagara marked the first time in five games in which the team scored at least 80 points, a feat that had been accomplished in four of the first five games of the season.
  • Additionally, the Peacocks' four double-digit scorers (Thornton, Jackson, Richardson, and Williams) are the most by the team since its 87-83 victory over Siena on Jan. 6.
  • Thornton's 25 point-performance is the junior's first time breaking the 20 point mark since Jan. 4, when the Pennsauken native dropped 23 points in the Peacocks' game against Marist.
Up Next:
  • The Peacocks head back to Jersey City as they prepare to host defending MAAC champion Quinnipiac on Thursday, Jan. 30, in a 7 p.m. start.
