Women’s Soccer Falls to Sacred Heart Saturday

Pioneers score late to take Saturday’s non-conference clash

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer found itself scoreless with six minutes to play but a late goal by host Sacred Heart gave the Pioneers a 1-0 decision over the Peacocks on Saturday at Park Ave Field.

Game Notes
  • Saturday's game was a war of attrition, as offensive scoring chances were at a premium for the Peacocks, who were limited to only five shot attempts for the afternoon.
  • On the other end, the duo of freshman Haley Martin and junior Victoria Scarratt withstood a barrage from the Pioneers, turning away the first 13 shots they faced up until the waning moments of regulation.
  • However, in the 84th minute, Sacred Heart forward Azira Malloy broke the deadlock, and the Pioneers would run out the clock to preserve the one-goal decision.
Inside the Numbers
  • Martin, who got the start, finished with a clean sheet in the first half and recorded seven stops. She then gave way to Scarratt, who also registered seven saves herself.
  • The trio of Nazae Craw, Isabel Fernandez and Skyler Owens all accounted for the Peacocks' three shots on goal.
Up Next
  • The Peacocks return to Jersey City next Saturday, Sept. 21, to take on Monmouth University in the first conference game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. from Jaroschak Field.
