Women’s Soccer Drops MAAC Opener vs. Monmouth

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team fell to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) hOURglass rival Monmouth University on Saturday by a 3-1 decision. Sophomore forward Julianna Murrill registered the lone tally for the home side in the 24th minute of the contest to level the score, but the Hawks found the back of the net twice in the second half to take the match.
 
Game Notes
  • The Hawks struck first on Saturday, with forward Madie Gibson netting Monmouth's first goal of the day off an assist from Lexie Palladino.
  • The Peacocks evened the score later in the first half, after Murrill took the ball herself and fired a shot past her defender from 30 yards out, slotting the ball in the top left corner past the outstretched Monmouth keeper.
  • The score would remain tied until the 48 minute mark, when Monmouth senior forward Dana Scheriff put the Hawks ahead with her second goal of the season.
  • Monmouth was able to seal the game in the 75th minute when Palladino notched her first goal of the match off an assist from Scheriff.
Inside the Numbers
  • Murrill's goal was the first in five games for the Peacocks and the sophomore's first of 2019.
  • Monmouth was able to put up 32 shots on the day, with 11 of them finding their target, while the Peacocks recorded two shots on the day with one of them finding the back of the net.
  • Earning her fourth start of the season, junior goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt recorded eight saves on the day.
