Baseball Plays Host to In-State Foe NJIT on Wednesday

  • The Peacocks remain home in non-conference action this week when the team hosts NJIT on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
  • Saint Peter's enters this week following its second conference win of the season, a 7-6 win over Rider on Sunday.

  • The NJIT Highlanders are currently 10-15-1 on the season.
  • NJIT comes into this week following a 1-3 week last week.
  • Of the three losses, one came to Peacock Rival Rider, as they fell to the Broncs 16-10 on Wednesday.
  • The Highlanders also dropped an ASUN series to Stetson, losing games one and two before winning the final game of the series in extra innings.
  • NJIT have also faced Manhattan of the MAAC, topping the Jaspers 9-7 back in early March.
 
On Deck
  • MAAC play continues for the Peacocks this weekend with a home MAAC series against Fairfield.
  • The teams will meet twice on Saturday at 12 and 3 p.m. and they will conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Ending Rivalry Droughts
  • For the first time since the 2016 campaign, the Peacocks earned wins against both hOURglass Rivals, Monmouth and Rider in the same season.
  • Saint Peter's defeated Monmouth 3-0 (April 1) and Rider 7-6 (April 7) ending five and six game losing streaks respectively to its two New Jersey foes.
 
Peacocks Blank Monmouth
  • The Peacocks shutout rival Monmouth 3-0 on April 1.
  • The 3-0 shutout was the program's first shutout win since March 12, 2016 when the Peacocks knocked off Fordham 2-0.
  • The home win for Saint Peter's was the first for the program since defeating Monmouth 8-7 on April 10, 2016.
  • The Peacocks' defense completed five double plays, the most this season for the team, with the next highest total being two.

  • Canisius and Monmouth were named the preseason favorites in the coaches' poll, followed by Marist, Quinnipiac, Manhattan, Fairfield, Siena, Niagara, Rider, Iona, and the Peacocks.
 
About the Coach
  • Danny Ramirez enters his third season as the baseball head coach at Saint Peter's in 2018-19.
  • In year number two, Ramirez led the Peacocks to a win over MAAC playoff qualifier Siena and a 7-1 blowout win over Iona for the program's largest margin of victory in over three years and largest MAAC margin of victory in four years.
  • His ace, Willie Krajnik, became the first player under Ramirez to earn all-league honors, being selected to the All-MAAC Second team.
  • Over his two seasons as the skipper, Ramirez has guided 15 student-athletes to MAAC All-Academic honors.
