Baseball Falls to La Salle

The Peacocks dropped the non-conference meeting on Tuesday

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Baseball suffered a 24-7 defeat to La Salle on Tuesday afternoon.
 
Game Notes
  • The Peacocks began the game with a flurry of runs in the first inning.
  • John Gavura got on by way of a walk, then Edwin Feliciano successfully moved Gavura to second with a sacrifice bunt, followed by a single by Hunter Mason.
  • Peter Ferony connected on a signle up the middle for two RBIs, scoring Gavura and Mason to give Saint Peter's a 2-0 lead.
  • With Ferony on third base, Jared Paladino hit a sacrifice fly to center field, to send Ferony home and extend the lead to 3-0.
  • La Salle scored one run in the bottom of the opening inning, sending the game to the second inning with Saint Peter's up 3-1.
  • After the Peacocks went run-less in the second, the Explorers went on an eight-run rally in the home half of the inning to take a 9-3.
  • Paladino notched his second RBI in the third when he doubled to left center for a run by Gavura.
  • La Salle responded with three more runs in their offensive half of the third, extending the Peacocks deficit to 12-4.
  • A fielder's choice and throwing error in the top of the fourth allowed Saint Peter's Andrew Connor to cross home for the Peacock's fifth run of the afternoon.
  • La Salle's lead grew to 19-5 in the fifth inning.
  • In the top of the sixth, Mason singled to center field and Nicholas Sciubba scored to make it a 19-6 game.
  • Five more runs by the Explorers would put them ahead 24-6 before Anthony Ramos' RBI single in the top of the ninth would make the final score 24-7.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Mason (2-5), Ferony (2-4) and Connor (2-4) each had two hits in the game to lead the Peacocks.
  • Ferony led the Peacocks with two RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Paladino also recorded two RBIs and Gavura scored two runs.
