Baseball Rallies in Ninth to Force Extras but Falls to Fordham in the 10th

The Peacocks scored five runs in the ninth, before falling 8-5

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the ninth, the Saint Peter's baseball team rallied to score five runs and force extra innings before ultimately falling to Fordham, 8-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's held Fordham hitless through the opening three innings before giving up a single hit in the fourth.
  • In the bottom of the same inning, the Peacocks loaded the bases with two-outs, but failed to score a run, leaving three on base.
  • Neither team would score runs in the fifth, leaving the game still tied at zero all.
  • Fordham would have its most successful inning of the day in the sixth when the team scored four runs from four hits to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Saint Peter's would again load the bases in the sixth, but a force out at second would end in the inning with the Peacocks still behind 4-0.
  • The game remained 4-0 until the ninth inning when the Rams scored an insurance run to extend their lead to 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Connor was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch following a strikeout.
  • Jesse Matos followed with a walk and then John Gavura was also hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out.
  • The first Peacock run crossed home plate when Edwin Feliciano drew a walk.
  • Then Anthony Ramos hit a ground out to first, scoring Lewis Garcia who entered the game as a pinch runner.
  • Trailing 5-2 with two on and two down, Peter Ferony stepped up to the plate and drill the ball over the right field fence for the game-tying three-run homer.
  • The Peacocks would fail to score the walk-off run, sending the game into extra innings.
  • In the top of the 10th, the Peacocks would surrender three runs leading to the final of 8-5.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • The home run was the first of the season for Ferony.
  • He led the team by going 3-for-4 and was the only Peacock with multiple hits in the game.
  • Ferony also posted a team-leading three RBIs in the game.
  • Feliciano and Ramos both record an RBI each.
  • Runs were tallied by Gavura, Feliciano, Ferony, Connor, and Garcia.

  • Saint Peter's continue the eight-game out of conference stretch with a home-home weekend series against Fairleigh Dickinson.
  • The Peacocks and Knights will meet in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 27 beginning at 12 p.m. in Teaneck.
  • The two teams will meet in a twin bill again on Sunday, April 28 in Jersey City at noon.
