Peter Ferony Tallies Five RBIs in Weekend Series at Canisius

The Peacocks dropped all three games of the series on Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped a weekend MAAC road series to Cansius on Saturday. Due to a weather stoppage in the sixth inning of game one on Friday, the teams completed all three games of the series today with the Peacocks falling 7-5, 10-5, and 6-3.
 
Game 1 Notes
  • Saint Peter's and Canisius opened the series on Friday afternoon.
  • Ferony hit his team-leading fourth triple of the season in the opening frame to drive in Hunter Mason for Saint Peter's first run.
  • Canisius scored five runs in the home half of the second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
  • In the top of the third, the Peacocks loaded the bases with singles from John Gavura and Mason, plus a drawn walk by Edwin Feliciano.
  • Ferony came to the plate and singled to center field for two RBIs to cut the score to 5-3.
  • Jared Paladino then followed with another single to score Mason and put the Peacocks behind by one run, trailing 5-4.
  • The Golden Griffins tacked on a run in the bottom half of the inning to extend the lead to 6-4.
  • Both teams scored one run in the sixth before the weather delay.
  • The Peacocks' run came from Jared Quintero when Chris Marquart hit a sacrifice fly to send home Quintero.
  • When the game resumed on Saturday morning, neither team scored, ending the contest at 7-5.
 
Game 2 Notes
  • Ferony again opened up the game with an RBI in the first inning.
  • With Mason on second, Ferony singled to the outfield driving in Mason to put the Peacocks up 1-0.
  • Canisius totaled five runs in the bottom of the first, overtaking the lead 5-1.
  • With two outs and two on in the second, Nicholas Sciubba hit a ground out scoring Quintero from third base.
  • Both remained scoreless until the fifth and sixth when Canisius added five more runs to its total.
  • Trailing 10-2, the Peacocks made a quick comeback push in the final inning.
  • Leadoff hitter Andrew Connor singled up the middle to start things off.
  • Trent Koerner then tripled to right center for the RBI on Connor's run making the score 10-3.
  • Koerner then advanced home on Canisius' wild pitch to make it a 10-4 deficit.
  • With the bases loaded and no outs, Mason grounded into a double play but Anthony Ramos was able to score from third to cut the score to 10-5, which would be the final.
 
Game 3 Notes
  • Neither team scored in the first two innings.
  • Canisius scored five runs from innings three to six.
  • In the top of the seventh, Ferony tripled to right center to drive in Mason from second base.
  • Paladino drove in the second run of the inning with a ground out to second allowing Ferony to score.
  • The Peacocks again scored in the eighth by way of Sciubba going home on a wild pitch.
  • The Peacocks would drop the game 6-3 after the Golden Griffins scored one more run in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Ferony hit .500 (5-of-10) on the day, with five RBIs and one run scored.
  • RBIs were also recorded by Paladino (2), Marquart, (1), Koerner (1), and Sciubba (1) in the series.
  • Mason scored at least one run in all three games and finished the series with four total to lead the Peacocks.
  • Runs were also scored by Quintero (2), Gavura (1), Feliciano (1), Connor (1), Koerner (1), Ramos (1), Sciubba (1).

  • Saint Peter's begins an eight-game out of conference stretch.
  • The eight games non-conference stanza begins on Tuesday, April 23 at La Salle followed by a home game against Fordham on Wednesday, April 24.
