Connor Tallies First Career Home Run Against NJIT in Out of Conference Play

The Peacocks were defeated 6-2 in the contest

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team fell in non-conference action to in-state rival, NJIT in their annual meeting on Wednesday afternoon. Redshirt-sophomore Andrew Connor hit his first career home run as the Peacocks lost to the Highlanders 6-2 at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City.
 
Game Notes
  • NJIT had two runs cross home in the opening inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead over Saint Peter's.
  • Another Highlander run in inning number two would extend the lead over the Peacocks to 3-0.
  • Dawy Lebron entered the game in relief for the Peacocks in the third and retired the side to keep the game at 3-0.
  • NJIT added another run in the fourth, leading 4-0.
  • The Peacocks' first opportunity to score came in the bottom of the fifth when the team loaded the bases behind singles from Anthony Ramos and Trent Koerner, followed by Edwin Feliciano being hit by a pitch.
  • With the bases loaded and two outs, Hunter Mason was struck out, leaving three on base in the inning and keeping the Peacocks scoreless.
  • The Highlanders lead grew to 5-0 in the sixth inning.
  • In the bottom of the seventh, the Peacocks loaded the bases again, this time with just one out.
  • Feliciano drove in the Peacocks' first run, hitting a single to right field that scored Ramos and almost scored Koerner, but he was thrown out at home plate.
  • The inning would end with Saint Peter's trailing 5-1.
  • Still trailing by the same score, Connors hit a solo home run over the right field fence, cutting the score to 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning.
  • NJIT scored its final run in the ninth, and the game would end on that mark as the Peacocks fell 6-2.   
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Nicholas Sciubba (2-for-5), Feliciano (2-for-4), and Ramos (2-for-4), each had a multi-hit game for the Peacocks.
  • Connor's home run and Feliciano's hit in the seventh produced the Peacocks' two RBIs, while runs were scored by Connor and Ramos.
  • The Peacocks threw six pitchers in the game, led by Lebron and Ledwin Nunez, who combined to throw 4.0 innings and strike out five batters.
 
On Deck
  • MAAC play continues for the Peacocks this weekend with a home MAAC series against Fairfield.
  • The teams will meet twice on Saturday at 12 and 3 p.m. and they will conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • Saint Peter's and NJIT will meet once more this season, Tuesday, May 7 at 3 p.m. in Jersey City.
