Baseball Falls to Fairfield

The Peacocks were defeated 7-2 by the Stags

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped a conference game to Fairfield, 7-2 on Friday afternoon in at Jaroschak Field.
 
Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's kept Fairfield scoreless through two innings, led by starting pitcher Joe Albunia's pair of strikeouts.
  • In the third, the Stags put two runs on the scoreboard to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Fairfield would add three more runs in the fifth, extending its lead over Saint Peter's to 5-0.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Peacocks would get their first hits of the game and put up their first runs.
  • John Gavura led off the inning with a single to left field to get the Peacocks going.
  • After Hunter Mason was walked, a passed ball by the Fairfield catcher would lead to both Gavura and Mason advancing bases.
  • Jared Paladino would follow with a two RBI single to left field, to put the Peacocks on the board, 5-2.
  • Neither team would get runs in the seventh or eighth innings, before Fairfield added two insurance runs in the ninth to take the contest, 7-2. 
Inside the Numbers
  • All three of the Peacocks' hits and two runs came in the sixth inning.
  • Gavura, Paladino, and Jared Quintero each connected on a hit in the game.
  • Albunia finished the day going 5.0 innings with four strikeouts.
