Women’s Volleyball Outlasted by Canisius on Sunday

Peacocks lost another four setter on Sunday

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball team closed out its home slate on Sunday against MAAC foe Cansius College. The Peacocks fell to the Griffs in four sets, 1-3 (25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 16-25).

Match Notes

  • The opening stanza was an exciting back and forth set that went down to the wire. After the early goings, neither team could put together a lead larger than three, which the Peacocks did late in the set when they took a 24-21 advantage. With set point, Angeleyshka Curbelo slammed home a kill to seal the 25-23 win.
  • Canisius came out fast in the second set, taking leads of 9-3 and then 16-8 over the Saint Peter's. The Peacocks would rebound, taking advantage of four straight errors by the Griffs, to cut the deficit to 12-16. The Peacocks remained in the same gear, allowing Canisius to win the set 25-19.
  • Much like the first set, the third set provided back and forth play -- 13 ties and six lead changes worth -- leading to another entertaining set. Still knotted, Peacocks got kills from Stephanie Rivera, Alanis Alvarado, and Curbelo to even things again at 23-23, but Canisius pulled out the last two points to take the set 25-23.
  • Canisius wound up taking the fourth and final set 25-16, to win the match.

Inside the Numbers
  • Wildalys Soto continued her double-double tear, going for her fifth straight and team leading 12th on the season. Soto handed out a Peacock-best 40 assists and made 12 digs defensively.
  • Curbelo (16), Alvarado (11), and Danielle Lopez (10) all surpassed double-figures in kills.
  • Karla Seda and Carolina Ruiz both set career marks in digs in the match with Seda making 38 digs and Ruiz 21.
