Women’s Soccer Drops Decision to Iona on Saturday

A penalty kick put the Gaels over the Peacocks 1-0

Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team fell to Iona 1-0 on Saturday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) duel. The Peacocks conceded a penalty kick late in the game which gave the Gaels the edge.
 
Game Notes
  • The two teams battled fiercely throughout the first hour of the match on Saturday, with neither team finding an opening in the other side's defense. 
  • Then, in the 69th minute, Iona's Amber Crispin drew a penalty within the Saint Peter's box and was awarded a penalty kick, which was taken successfully.
  • The Peacocks would fight valiantly, but ultimately were not able to climb back to even things up with the Gaels. 
Inside the Numbers
  • Despite the score, Peacocks junior goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt enjoyed a strong showing in goal, recording five saves compared to Iona's one, and did not allow any goals outside of the penalty kick.
  • Iona held the advantage in shots against Saint Peter's on Saturday, racking up a total of 18 compared to two from the Peacocks.
  • Saint Peter's recorded one shot on goal during Saturday's match, with freshman midfielder Dominique Cummings finding the mark on her only shot of the day.
