Offensive Struggles Lead to Peacocks Defeat at Rival Monmouth

The Peacocks dropped the road game, 61-44

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – Just one game after posting its best shooting performance of the season, the Saint Peter's men's basketball team recorded one of its worst offensive games of the season, leading to a 61-44 defeat at the hands of hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Saturday. The Peacocks' Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) record drops to 1-1 on the season following the loss.
 
Game Notes
  • Saint Peter's (4-10, 1-1) dominated early, scoring 11 points in the game's first 3:30, getting out to a 11-2 lead over Monmouth (2-13, 1-1).
  • The quick offensive spurt closed out with a 7-0 run led by Samuel Idowu's five points and two points from Dallas Watson.
  • During the stretch, Monmouth was held scoreless for 2:31 minutes and were forced into three straight turnovers by the Peacock defense.
  • Over the half's final 16:30, the Peacocks would only produce nine total points, taking a 25-20 deficit into the half.
  • In the second half, the Peacocks fell behind by double figures and failed to get any closer than within eight points in the half before falling by the final score.
 
Inside the Numbers
  • Watson scored a career and team-high 13 points, connecting on two made 3-pointers in the game.  
  • Turner scored 12 points and led the squad with three assists.
  • Idowu followed Turner with seven points.
  • KC Ndefo grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and blocked two shots on the day.
  • The loss snapped the Peacocks' first multi-game winning streak of the season and keeps the team winless on the road.
  • The Peacocks shot 15 of 45 (33.3%) from the field and turned the ball over 22 times in the defeat.
  • The 15 made field goals, the 33.3% field goal percentage, and the 22 turnovers were all the second lowest totals for the team since an early season loss at nationally ranked Auburn.
  • Monmouth was led by Diago Quinn who scored a game-high 19 points with eight rebounds.
