Women’s Soccer Hands Conference Leader Quinnipiac its First MAAC Loss of the Season

The Peacocks score a huge 1-0 upset win over top ranked Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team put together the biggest upset win of the season thus far, handing first place and previously unbeaten Quinnipiac University its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) defeat of the season. The win improves the Peacocks MAAC record to 2-2 on the season.

Game Notes
  • After recording no shots in the first half, Alexandria Couto scored the game-winning goal on the Peacocks' first shot attempt in the game.
  • Couto's goal came at the 62:10 mark in the second half to give the Peacocks a 1-0 advantage.  
Inside the Numbers
  • Couto's game-winner was her second tally of the season, tying her with Brooke Boutchie for the team-lead.
  • Couto also logged Saint Peter's only other shot, which was also on goal but saved by Quinnipiac keeper Olivia Myszewski.
  • Victoria Scarratt made six saves in all 90 minutes of action.
  • Scarratt earned her second clean sheet victory of the season and fifth of her career.
  • On the box score, Quinnipiac controlled the game, holding advantages over the Peacocks in shots (13-2), shots on goal (6-2), and corner kicks (9-1).
  • Saint Peter's is the first team to defeat Quinnipiac in over a month.
  • The victory was the first ever for Saint Peter's over Quinnipiac after previously going 0-9 all-time against the Bobcats.
  • The two MAAC wins give the Peacocks six league points on the year, the most points the program has scored since the 2011 season.
