Women’s Soccer Uses Two Second Half Goals to Edge Iona 2-1

Strong second half gives the Peacocks their third conference win of the season

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team used two second half goals to come back from a 1-0 deficit to knock off Iona, 2-1. Seniors Mia Greene and Barbara Paiva scored the goals for the Peacocks.
 
Game Notes
  • Ciara Gugliemo for Iona (3-12-2, 1-6-2) found the back of the net in the 39th minute after receiving a cross from Jackie Morris for her second goal of the season.
  • The Peacocks (3-12, 3-6) started the second half with two goals in six minutes to take the 2-1 lead.
  • In the 49th minute, Brooke Trotta took a corner kick from the near side, and sent it across the field to Greene, who shot the ball across her body to the near post for the game-tying goal.
  • Three minutes later, Alexandria Couto sent a pass from midfield to Paiva who beat the Iona defender, leaving her one on one with the keeper who could not stop Paiva's shot to the near post.

  • Greene scored her second goal of the season and career.
  • Paiva, who ranks in Saint Peter's top-10 all-time in goals and points, scored her first tally of the season.
  • Trotta dished out her team-leading third assists, while Couto recorded her first of the year.
  • Victoria Scarratt made six saves in goal to pick up her third win of the season.
  • The win snapped a six-game losing streak to the Gaels dating back to 2011.
  • The third MAAC win for the Peacocks gives the team nine points, the most MAAC points in a season for the program since 1998.
