The 2019-20 season marks Melissa Sherwood’s fourth season as the women's soccer head coach at Saint Peter's.

Sherwood's women’s soccer team finished the 2018 season with its highest MAAC finish in 20 years. She guided the Peacocks to a 7th place ranking in the conference, their best finish since 1998, and just one spot shy of a playoff appearance. The Peacocks posted the program's most MAAC wins (3) and points (10) since 1998 and posted its most overall wins since 2009 under Sherwood in 2018. Over the three seasons under Sherwood, the team has improved their MAAC record each year from 0-9-1 (2016), to 1-8-1 (2017), to 3-6-1 (2018). F
reshman Brooke Boutchie was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, becoming the first player to earn the honor since 2014 and the first all-conference player under Sherwood. 

Under Sherwood during the 2017 campaign, the Peacocks finished the regular season with four league points the most in a season for the program since the 2011 season when that squad earned six MAAC points.  The team also secured its first trip to the postseason under Sherwood’s direction. In the MAAC tournament, the Peacocks scored the program’s first postseason goal since the 2005 MAAC tournament. Saint Peter’s has led the conference in saves and saves per game in both of Sherwood’s first two seasons.

Sherwood came to Saint Peter's after serving as the head coach of the Immaculata girls soccer team in Somerville, N.J., since 2014. Sherwood went to the Spartans in 2012 and served as an assistant coach with the program before being elevated to head coach.

In addition to her duties at Somerville, Sherwood is the head coach of the Jersey United in Morristown of the National Premier League and Atlantic Soccer League. She has worked with the U14, U15 and U17 of the club to help girls develop into collegiate soccer players. During the summer of 2015, she worked with the U20 and U23 women's program, which consisted of mainly Division I and II players that graduated through the Jersey United system.

She got her start in coaching in the United State with ATSC of New Jersey from 2011-14. She was the head coach and director of female soccer of various New Jersey Soccer Clubs associated with ATSC, which is affiliated with the Princeton Soccer Association, Mount Olive Soccer Club and the Greater Flemington Soccer Club.

A 2007 graduate of Leeds City College and a 2011 graduate of Leeds Metropolitan University, Sherwood has played for various elite level and professional clubs in the English Premier League with two short stints in the Australian and American Women's Leagues.
