Incoming Student-Athletes

MEDICAL CLEARANCE
Prior to arriving on campus for class registration, all student-athletes must submit directly to the Health Services department a record of their immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) as well as a physical by their primary care physician within the past 12 months. The above mentioned requirements must be on file with Health Services prior to a student-athlete's pre-participation physical and medical clearance. No exceptions will be made.

WELCOME TO THE FLOCK PRESENTATION

INCOMING FRESHMEN AND TRANSFERS: You MUST complete a personal medical file on Vivature online and submit required documents!

Along with the above mentioned, an online baseline concussion test, coordinated by the Athletic Training staff,  must be administered and on file for all student-athletes.
Note: A student-athlete needs only (1) baseline concussion test administered unless a new baseline is warranted according to the Head Injury Management Policy.

PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES (TRYOUTS)
A student intending to try out for a team must communicate with the coaching staff of the intended team in order to be granted permission. The student must be directed by the coaching staff firstly to the Director of Compliance as well as the Academic Advisor for Athletics to review eligibility status. If the student is eligible for competition, he/she will be directed by the Director of Compliance and/or the Academic Advisor for Athletics to the Sports Medicine department to begin the steps for medical clearance.

The prospective student-athlete (PSA) must submit a physical from a medical physician or nurse practitioner taken within the past (6) months indicating the PSA is healthy for physical activity.  They must also submit a copy of their insurance card (front and back). Requirements must be submitted to Sports Medicine no later than 72 hours prior to the try-out. If the PSA is added to the active roster by the head coach, the head coach must notify Sports Medicine, the Director of Compliance, and the Academic Advisor. The PSA must then create an online medical profile on Vivature. Sports Medicine will arrange for a physical to be performed by a Saint Peter's Athletics team physician and a baseline concussion exam by Sports Medicine Staff.

FINAL CLEARANCE
Note that clearance from Sports Medicine is only one portion of the clearance portion.  Final clearance for athletics comes from the Director of Compliance once all the requirements are met.  Any questions pertaining to final clearance should be directed to karcuri@saintpeters.edu.
