EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Saint Peter's baseball team dropped its first game of the series to Mount St. Mary's by a final score of 3-15 on Friday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium. The Peacocks play the other two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
The Peacocks (3-27, 0-13 MAAC) managed eight hits on the day, but had a hard time turning them into runs as the Mountaineers (15-15, 8-8 MAAC) pulled away early.
Bobby Lavely had a solid showing, recording his second-most hits in a game this season with three.
Allen Ramos had the next most hits with two, while
Steve Pollizi had the lone Saint Peter's home run on his only hit of the day. In the field, the first baseman,
Aidan Forrest, finished the game with 10 putouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In the top of the second, the Peacocks broke the 0-0 tie and took a 1-0 lead when Lavely singled up the middle to send
RJ Azarieh home. Mount St. Mary's had a strong response, however, erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the inning.
Polizzi hit a solo home run in the third, but Saint Peter's still faced a large deficit at 2-7. The Peacocks cut the gap to just four runs in the fourth inning, but again the Mountaineers had a strong answer. Mount St. Mary's added three runs to take a 10-3 advantage heading into the fifth.
The Peacocks saw some solid opportunities throughout the rest of the game, but the Mountaineers did a good job of limiting the scoring. Saint Peter's ultimately fell 3-15.
