SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Saint Peter's women's soccer team earned its final victory of the month on Sunday afternoon, defeating Le Moyne 1–0 in the Dolphins' home opener.
Joana Dias tallied her first goal of the season in the win, while freshman goalkeeper
Bergljot Kristinsdottir recorded seven saves to secure the shutout.
FIRST HALF
The Peacocks nearly struck first just two minutes in when
Heidi Miles fired a shot that sailed over the crossbar. Saint Peter's controlled the tempo early, keeping the ball in Le Moyne's half while the back line of
Allyssia Merisier, Devin Reeves, Macey Williams, and
Jacqui Weber locked down every Dolphin breakaway attempt.
Just 15 minutes into the half, Williams drew a foul in the box off a long throw-in from Reeves, earning Saint Peter's a penalty. Dias stepped to the spot and calmly slotted her attempt into the lower left corner, giving the Peacocks a 1–0 lead.
Le Moyne created its best chance off a set piece midway through the half after a Peacock foul near the edge of the 18. Fifth-year Gabriella Sylstra fired a shot on target, but freshman keeper Kristinsdottir made a confident save, her first of the day.
At the break, Saint Peter's held a 7–2 edge in total shots, a 3–1 lead in shots on goal, and a 3–0 advantage in corners.
SECOND HALF
Le Moyne came out energized after the break to level the score, generating five shots in a two-minute span, but Kristinsdottir made two key saves while the defense blocked another attempt.
Saint Peter's managed just one shot in the opening 25 minutes of the half, while Le Moyne continued to press. With 14 minutes remaining, the Dolphins forced Kristinsdottir into a diving save on a shot from the top of the box. Moments later, she denied another one-timed effort from close range off a cross from the left side.
The Dolphins held a 11–2 edge in second-half shots and a 3–0 advantage in corners, but the Peacock defense stayed organized and limited Le Moyne's clean looks. In the final five minutes, Le Moyne chipped a ball over the back line, but Kristinsdottir and Reeves combined to shut down the chance.
At the final whistle, Le Moyne outshot Saint Peter's 13–9 and led 7–3 in shots on goal. Corners finished even at 3–3.
