Saint Peter’s Comes Up Short in Home Opener

JERSEY CITY- N.J.  -  In its first time hosting on Jaroschak Field for the 2025 season, Saint Peter's suffered a 1-4 loss to FDU. The Peacocks put up an aggressive fight against the Knights, but in the end they were not able to prevail. A penalty kick in the second half allowed for Saint Peters to get on the board with a goal from Tim Strele.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF: The Peacocks came ready to defend their home turf on this sunny Saturday afternoon. The fierce efforts from SPU unfortunately led to a red card ejection in under the first ten minutes of the game which then resulted in an early goal for FDU. Saint Peter's worked up the field with the few offensive chances presented to them. The Knights were unable to break through the Peacocks' line of defense for the remainder of the half.

SECOND HALF: Coming back onto the pitch, the Peacocks conceded a quick goal within the first few minutes. Vigorous play from both teams resulted in four cards being distributed throughout the match. SPU relentlessly attempted to get on the board with multiple shots; however, FDU continued to push forward with two more goals. The Peacocks were able to capitalize off a golden opportunity in the 62nd minute when Strele put in the clean finish with the penalty kick awarded to Saint Peter's.

UP NEXT
The Peacocks have another match on Jaroschak Field against George Washington on Friday, Sept. 5 at 3 p.m. E.T.

NOTES
Saint Peter's had five shots … keeper, Oliver Alaviuhkola, made six saves … the teams were close in fouls with eight for the Peacocks compared to nine for the Knights.
