JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's baseball team will look to turn the page this weekend against Marist after falling to Lafayette in a crazy 22-11 game on Wednesday.
The Peacocks (7-21, 3-9 MAAC) have been struggling as of late with their last defeat coming against the Leopards (10-24, 6-6 Patriot League), however, Saint Peter's showed some positive signs at the plate. The Peacocks put up their fourth-highest scoring total this season.
Logan Baker led the charge with three hits while
Tyler DeClusin and
Tyler Smith each recorded two.
Alex Rakas had a solid outing with a team-high three RBIs, two of which came on a double to left center in the fifth inning.
The Peacocks will need to match that success offensively this weekend as Marist sits fifth in the MAAC. The Red Foxes (13-17, 6-5 MAAC) are also on a losing streak, falling to Canisius, Albany and Army recently.
Marist has one of the better pitchers in the conference in Will Taylor who boasts a 3.27 ERA which ranks sixth in the MAAC. For Saint Peter's,
Ashby Vining and
Tommy Kendrick still sit atop the MAAC in batting average.
The Peacocks are set to continue conference play at Jaroschak Field this weekend with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The scheduling is subject to change due to weather concerns, so be sure to check the Saint Peter's baseball website as well as social media pages (@PeacocksBase) to stay up to date.
