JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After taking both games on Saturday, the Saint Peter's baseball team fell, 5-10, in the third and final game of the series vs. Canisius at Jaroschak Field on Sunday.
The Peacocks (7-15, 3-6 MAAC) went down early as the Griffs (3-15, 2-4 MAAC) built a 5-0 lead after the first two innings. After that, Canisius didn't trail for the rest of the day as SPU committed a few errors.
Despite the defeat,
Tommy Kendrick had a solid performance with two hits and two RBIs.
Tyler DeClusin also played well, totaling a team-high three RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Peacocks found themselves in a 0-5 five hole after the top of the second inning. It wasn't until the bottom of the third when Saint Peter's made a dent in its deficit.
Alex Rakas singled to right center right before
Garrett Greco was walked to put himself at first and Rakas at second.
They then both advanced bases on a wild pitch by the Griffs. Kendrick hit a ball to right field to score both Rakas and Greco and make it 2-5. Shortly after, Kendrick made it home after a sacrifice fly to DeClusin.
There was no more scoring until the top of the seventh when Canisius added three more runs to extend its lead to 8-5. Both teams traded runs in each inning from that point on until the Peacocks failed to score in the bottom of the ninth. The Griffs held on for a 10-5 victory.
