LITTLE FALLS, N.J. – The Saint Peter's baseball team fell to NJIT by a score of 4-1 under the lights at Yogi Berra Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Peacocks (5-14, 1-5 MAAC) totaled just five hits on the day as the Highlanders (9-10) also struggled at home plate with only seven hits.
Charlie Berryman and
Caden Goodwin had solid performances on the mound, holding NJIT to one run while facing 19 batters combined.
HOW IT HAPPENED
NJIT put two early runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning while
David Delgadillo was on the mound for the Peacocks. The Highlanders then tacked on another run in the second inning after a groundout resulted in a score by the runner on third to make it a 3-0 lead.
Saint Peter's had a quick top of the third after three batters came and went as NJIT returned to hitting. Berryman came into the game for Delgadillo, but then the Highlanders managed a fourth run with a double to left field. That run was the last time NJIT made it to home plate for the rest of the night.
Both teams struggled to get much going for the next three innings before
Alex Manent advanced home on a throw to second base in the top of the seventh. The Peacocks never had much of an opportunity to tie the game or take the lead in the final two innings as the Highlanders won 4-1.
