TEANECK, N.J. – The Saint Peter's baseball team picked up its third win of the season on Wednesday after taking down FDU, 12-10, behind an explosive ninth inning at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex.
The Peacocks (3-5) doubled their own score in the top of the ninth with six runs on the Knights (0-8) before putting them away with three outs in the bottom of the inning.
Saint Peter's trailed most of the game and even faced a four-run deficit heading into the ninth, but that didn't stop the Peacocks from coming back in dominant fashion.
Ashby Vining started the scoring run with a homer in the seventh before hitting another home run in the ninth. His second home run brought
Tyler Cotten home as the Peacocks narrowed their deficit to two.
With the bases loaded,
Garrett Greco then hit a single for his third hit of the day as two more runners made it home to tie the game at 10-10.
Luke Schwartz made it to third, putting him in position to score the go-ahead run and he did just that on a passed ball.
Tommy Kendrick followed up Greco's hit with a single to bring Greco home and extend the Saint Peter's lead to 12-10 going into the bottom of the ninth.
Ben Williams came into the game and put it away on the mound as he threw the two final strikeouts without allowing a hit.
Vining had a huge impact on the outcome of the game, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Greco also played a huge role in the comeback as he totaled three hits and five RBIs.
Logan Baker led the team with three runs scored.
The Peacocks have their final long road trip of the season this weekend when they play Southern in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It will be a three-game series with the first game being Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
