Box Score FAIRFIELD,CT - Saint Peter's women's basketball suffered a 73-43 loss to the Fairfield Stags on Thursday night. Fatmata Janneh led the Peacocks with a strong offensive performance, finishing as the game's lead scorer, tacking on 14 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Peter's got off to a strong start with a three-point jumper from freshman Linda Amaning. Sophomore Fatmata Janneh added to the momentum, sinking a three-pointer before following up with a layup. Later in the first quarter, Nikola Zdenkova knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 11-11. Junior Louella Allana connected from beyond the arc as the Peacocks battled to stay within reach, closing out the quarter trailing 21-16 against the Stags.
The Peacocks fought to gain momentum, but the Stags' fast pace proved difficult to match. Despite a late push in the second quarter, Fairfield remained in control, heading into halftime with a 31-17 lead.
Graduate guard Laila Grant opened the second half with a three-pointer, sparking some energy for the Peacocks. Janneh attacked the rim with a strong drive, while Grant and fellow graduate guard Maya Hyacienth each added a pair of layups. Allana drilled a three-pointer late in the quarter, but the Peacocks still struggled to close the gap. The Stags maintained control, ending the third with a 51-33 lead.
In the final stretch, sophomore Lara Aguzzi added a smooth jumper marking her first collegiate points, trying to spark some late momentum for the Peacocks. Freshman Jineen Ayyash made her mark with a second-chance layup, scoring her first collegiate points and adding a boost of energy for the Peacocks. However, Fairfield's lead remained out of reach, as the Stags continued to control the pace until the final buzzer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Fatmata Janneh put up a solid performance, finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds steals in 30 minutes of action. She shot four-for-11 from the field. Janneh also contributed defensively with three assists and two steals, battling on both ends of the court.
