Strele’s Second Half Goal Lifts Peacocks Over Rider

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's men's soccer team (4-7-1, 2-4-0 MAAC) picked up its second conference win of the season, defeating Rider (1-8-4, 0-3-3 MAAC)  in a 1-0 match at Jaroschak Field on Wednesday. This marks the fourth time this year that the Peacocks held their opponent scoreless.

Neither team managed a score in the first half, but Saint Peter's wasted no time getting a goal in the second, scoring just 32 seconds in. Tim Strele scored the difference maker as the Peacocks notched another conference victory.

There were several injuries in the opening half, but SPU found a way to stay competitive. Just 15 minutes into the match, Samuel Rudjord was injured on a play, bringing Tiernan Garvey onto the pitch. Garvey was involved right away, making a positive impact on the Saint Peter's offensive attack with a shot.

The Peacocks had four corner kicks in the first 25 minutes, but their two shots on goal came on different opportunities. Their best chance came early in the game when Leo Coval almost scored on a header off a cross.

After the first 45 minutes, the Peacocks and Broncs were scoreless, but Saint Peter's won the shot count with seven total. Four of those seven shots were on goal,  but the Rider goalkeeper Marius Helias was able to make some key saves.

Strele scored 32 seconds into the second half, which broke the tie and put the Peacocks up, 1-0. With the goal, he extended his scoring streak to three straight games.

Saint Peter's held Rider to just five shots in the second half as the defense stayed strong. Moritz Conrad finished with four saves, two in each half.

UP NEXT
