JERSEY CITY, NJ- Saint Peter's women's basketball looks to extend their two-game winning streak as they face Marist in their Kid's Day Game. The match-up is scheduled for Thursday, January 16th at 11 a.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Heading into Thursday's matchup against the Red Foxes, the Peacocks boast a 5-9 overall record and a 3-2 standing in MAAC play. They carry the momentum of a two-game winning streak, including a gritty 61-55 home victory over Canisius on Saturday, January 11.
Offensively, the Peacocks average 52.0 points per game while shooting 36.3% from the field and 28.7% from three-point range. A driving force behind their success is Janneh Fatmata, who leads the MAAC with remarkable averages of 19.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. Her dominant presence on both ends of the floor has been pivotal in the team's recent success, as they look to build on their winning streak on Thursday.She recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds against Canisius.
Nikola Zdenkova's sharpshooting was crucial in turning the tide. She tallied 12 points, shooting an impressive 50% from beyond the arc (4-for-8).
Laila Grant provided a solid scoring option, contributing 13 points, including three triples on seven attempts.
The Peacocks outclassed Canisius in ball movement, tallying 17 assists compared to just eight for the visiting team. The game's decisive moment came at the start of the second half. Trailing slightly after halftime, Saint Peter's stormed out with a 10-0 run to seize control.
SCOUTING THE RED FOXES
Julia Corsentino has made a strong sophomore leap after averaging 5.9 points per game as a freshman. This season, she's posting career-best averages of 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game off the bench. Corsentino has been consistent, scoring seven or more points in six of her last eight games before starting against Bryant on Dec. 17. A standout performance came with 12 points against Bryant. She also posted a career-high seven rebounds in multiple games, including against St. John's and Stony Brook.
Ciara Croker, a junior forward and the program's first legacy athlete, has also been a standout, averaging 6.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 assists per game. She has contributed key performances, including 12 points against Iona and a 10-point, six-rebound, two-steal game against Quinnipiac. Croker's defensive prowess is highlighted by a career-high four steals against Bryant. Her all-around play has been essential to Marist's success this season.
HISTORY VS. MARIST
Thursday's contest against Saint Peter's marks the 64th all-time meeting between Marist and the Peacocks. The Red Foxes hold a strong 41-22 record in the series history, though recent matchups have been closely contested, with the teams splitting the last four games.
Marist previously dominated the rivalry, highlighted by an impressive 20-game winning streak over Saint Peter's from 2007 to 2015. However, the Peacocks have shown resilience in recent years. In their last encounter, on March 2, 2024, Saint Peter's edged out Marist in a thrilling overtime battle, securing a narrow 58-57 victory in Poughkeepsie.
