JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's men's basketball team is back at Run Baby Run Arena to play Marist on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET. The Peacocks are returning to action after securing their first conference win of the season over Canisius on Sunday.
At home this season, SPU is 2-2 with wins coming against Saint Elizabeth and Delaware. In those games, the Peacocks averaged 41.5 rebounds, a 52.9 field goal percentage and 22 assists. Marist has a 4-2 record on the road and is currently on an eight-game winning streak.
In their most recent win against Canisius, the Peacocks let up just 49 points which is their lowest points allowed in a game all season. They held the Griffs to 34.0 percent shooting from the field and limited the conference's leading scorer to 11 points on 3-of-15 shooting.
Offensively, Saint Peter's recorded its second-best 3-point shooting performance against Canisius, cashing in on 10-of-22 shots from deep for a 45.5 percent mark. The Peacocks will look to bring that momentum into Thursday as Marist ranks sixth in the MAAC in opponent 3-point field goal percentage.
ABOUT THE RED FOXES
- Marist is tied with Merrimack for first-place in the MAAC with an overall record of 12-2 and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. The Red Foxes have won their past eight games and last two on the road.
- They are led by sophomore guards Josh Pascarelli and Jadin Collins-Roberts. Pascarelli is averaging 17.3 points per game which is the third most in the MAAC, behind only Paul McMillan IV of Canisius and Adam Clark of Merrimack. He is a threat from long range with the best 3-point percentage in the conference, making 36-of-81 (.444) 3s.
- Collins-Roberts leads the Red Foxes in assists with 49 which is 18 more than the next player and he also leads the team in steals with 20.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- Out of 355 NCAA DI teams, Saint Peter's ranks 34th in scoring defense, allowing just 64.9 points per game. Conversely, Marist is one of the more accurate shooting teams in the country, making 46.4 of its shots from the field which ranks 110th nationally.
- SPU and Marist are the top two teams in the conference in scoring defense. They are also the top two teams in opponent field goal percentage.
- Two of the 12 wins for the Red Foxes have come in overtime. They took down Army 91-88 after Collins-Roberts sent the game to overtime with a last-second basket. Marist's second overtime victory came against UMBC in late December.
- Saint Peter's is 23-9 at home vs. Marist all-time and have only lost once hosting the Red Foxes in the past 10 years.
