JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (16-11, 11-6 MAAC) had its five-game winning streak snapped at Rider (15-16, 12-8) Thursday night at Alumni Gym.
In a very physical back and forth contest, the game featured 14 lead changes, and came down to the final minute of regulation.
Rider had three players in double figures. Mervin James scored a team-high 12 points for Rider with eight rebounds, Anthony McCall scored11 points, with five rebounds, one assist, and two steals, and JT Langston Jr contributed 10 points with three rebounds and two blocks.
Corey Washington led the Peacocks with a 22-point, 12 rebound double-double. Washington tallied his fourth-career double-double. It's the ninth game he's scored 20+ points.
After the result, Saint Peter's remained at third in the MAAC standings behind Fairfield (19-11, 13-6 MAAC), and Quinnipiac (22-8, 14-5 MAAC).

The Broncs jumped out to a 7-0 advantage in the first half.

The Peacocks started the game 1-9 from the field in the game. Rider's Rueben Rodriguez knocked down a jump shot and the Peacocks trailed 10-2.

Saint Peter's scored the next six points in the half and cut the deficit to 10-8.

From there the first half was tightly contested with no lead greater than seven. Each team made nine field goals in the first half.

The Peacocks cut the score to 21-20 after two baskets from Michael Houge and four free throws from Washington.

Saint Peter's took a 26-24 advantage with 1:42 in the half after Mouhamed Sow scored in the paint. Sow finished with the game with eight points, four rebounds, and four steals.

The Broncs scored the last five points of the half after a three-pointer from James and a layup from Anthony. SPU trailed 29-26 at halftime.

The game was tied up nine times in the second half.

Rider took 25 free throws in the second half and finished 23-38 (60.5%) from the charity stripe.

With 9:33 left, Armoni Zeigler extended the Peacocks lead to 47-43 after he knocked down a perimeter three-pointer.

Rider responded and scored the next five points and took a 49-47 lead.

Washington scored a layup in the paint and SPU led 51-49 at the 5:10 mark.

The Broncs scored four straight free throws and a jump shot from Anthony put them up 56-54.

Latrell Reid drove to the basket and hit a tough floater, which tied the game at 56-56 with 1:39 left.

Rider scored seven consecutive points in the final minute of the game. A late goaltend put the Broncs up 58-56 with five seconds left and free throws completed the game at 61-56.
