Saint Peter's Face No. 7 Quinnipiac To Open MAAC Championships Tuesday Afternoon

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team travels to Atlantic City, N.J. for the 2024 Hercules Tires MAAC Basketball Championships. The squad will take on the #7 seed Quinnipiac Bobcats.Tip-off is scheduled for 12:45pm. Fans can follow the action live on ESPN+.

ABOUT SAINT PETER'S

In the Peacocks' last game against Mount St. Mary's, Saint Peter's were defeated by the Mountaineers 56-46. Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh had scored six points in the first five minutes of the game. Janneh led the way with 24 points, eight rebounds and one steal, while shooting 62.5% from the field. The squad collected 26 rebounds, shot 35.7% from the floor and 92.9% from the free-throw line. Saint Peter's held the Mount scoreless for three minutes. 

Sophomore Jada Leonard currently leads the team in points, averaging 12.0 per game, while contributing 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. Leonard has a total of 325 points so far this season.

Janneh leads the Peacocks in rebounds with an average of 7.9 per game. She is second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 per contest. Kuhl leads the Peacocks with 39 three-pointers this season. 

This season, the team has already reached a number of significant milestones. Against Niagara, Roy scored 26 points, setting a new season and career best.  Roy is currently ranked 8th in the MAAC in blocks.

Leonard achieved a new career high against Hampton, tacking on 25 points. Leonard led the team in scoring with 24 points against Rider, shooting 8 of 19 from the field and racking up five steals. She is currently ranked 11th in scoring and 5th in steals for the MAAC.

Kuhl netted a season high with 24 to help pace Saint Peter's to a 61-55 home win against Manhattan.

Janneh led the Peacocks in scoring against Iona with 28 points, going 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc. For Janneh, this was also a new high in her career. This season, Janneh has recorded nine double-doubles. She was selected to the MAAC All Rookie Team and is ranked 4th in rebounds in the MAAC.

ABOUT QUINNIPIAC

The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team enters the game with a record of 12-17. They are currently 9-11 in the MAAC. Quinnipiac is the seventh seed in the MAAC Championship.

In the Bobcats previous game against Marist, the team defeated the Red Foxes, 51-42. Freshman guard Karson Martin led the Bobcats with 11 points and 12 rebounds for her. This was Martin's first collegiate double double. Freshman forward Anna Foley tacked on 10 points and collected six rebounds. Foley and Martin were both selected for the MAAC All Rookie Team.

Junior guard Jackie Grisdale currently leads the team in points averaging 14.1 per game. Foley leads the team in rebounds, averaging 7.2 per game.

THE SERIES

This is the 22nd matchup in history between the Bobcats and the Peacocks since 2013-14. The Bobcats lead the series 21-0.

Next up, the winner of this game faces #2 Niagara, Wednesday March 13th. Tip off is set for 3:30pm. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
