Women's Basketball Travels To Poughkeepsie Saturday

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team is set to travel to Poughkeepsie, New York where the squad faces the Marist Red Foxes. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm. Fans can follow the action live on ESPN+.


ABOUT SAINT PETER'S

In the Peacocks' last game against Siena, Saint Peter's were defeated by the Saints 75-57. Sophomore guard Jada Leonard secured 24 points to lead the squad, while freshman center Carys Roy tacked on 10 points. Leonard contributed a total of six rebounds while shooting 73% from the floor. 

Leonard currently leads the team in points, averaging 12.9 per game, while contributing 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2.2 steals per contest. Leonard has a total of 309 points so far this season.

Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh leads the Peacocks in rebounds with an average of 7.4 per game. She is second on the team in scoring, averaging 9.8 per contest. Senior guard Rachel Kuhl leads the Peacocks with 36 three-pointers this season. 

This season, the team has already reached a number of significant milestones. Against Niagara, Roy scored 26 points, setting a new season and career best.  Roy is currently ranked 7th in the MAAC in blocks.

Leonard achieved a new career high against Hampton, tacking on 25 points. Leonard led the team in scoring with 24 points against Rider, shooting 8 of 19 from the field and racking up five steals. She is currently ranked 9th in scoring and 4th in steals for the MAAC.

Kuhl netted a season high with 24 to help pace Saint Peter's to a 61-55 home win against Manhattan.

Janneh led the Peacocks in scoring against Iona with 28 points, going 5-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc. For Janneh, this was also a new high in her career. This season, Janneh has recorded eight double-doubles. She is ranked 7th in rebounds for the MAAC.


ABOUT MARIST
The Marist Women's Basketball team enters the game with a record of 5-22, They are currently 3-14 in the MAAC.

In their last game against Siena, senior forward Zaria Shazer led the Red Foxes with 14 points, while sophomore center Morgan Lee tacked 12 and sophomore guard Jackie Piddock contributed 10.The Red Foxes started the quarter by keeping the Saints scoreless throughout the opening 6:30 of play, reducing the deficit to single digits during that time.

Shazer leads the team in points per game with an average of 14.6.  Shazer also leads the team in rebounds, averaging 8.6 per game.

THE SERIES
This is the 94th matchup in history between the Red Foxes and the Peacocks since 1983-84. The Peacocks lead the series 51-42.

UP NEXT
Following this game, the Peacocks return home to Run Baby Run Arena to host the Fairfield Stags on Thursday, March 7th. This is the Peacocks senior night where the program will honor its three seniors. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
