Box Score Hanover, Md.- Saint Peter's Baseball lost to Coppin State University, 13-12, on Sunday afternoon at Joe Cannon Stadium.
Game Notes
- In a wild set of events, Coppin State pulled off a seven-run comeback for a 13-12 win over Saint Peter's.
- Heading into the bottom of the ninth, Saint Peter's held a 12-11 after Tyler Cotton's go-ahead home run.
- Unfortunately for Saint Peter's, Coppin State tied the game and eventually sealed a win in the bottom of the ninth with Damon Gaither's game-winning RBI single to center field.
- In the top of the first, Saint Peter's took an early 1-0 lead following Cotten's RBI double to center field that scored Tyler DeClusin.
- Brendon Wilson extended Saint Peter's lead to 3-0 in the first inning with a two-run single that scored Tyler Smith and Cotten. Wilson then came around to score when Logan Baker hit an RBI double. Saint Peter's left the top of the first with a 4-0 advantage over Coppin State.
- Cotten knocked a solo home run over the wall in left center field in the second inning, which gave Saint Peter's a 5-0 lead.
- After trailing Saint Peter's, 7-0, Coppin State rattled off eight runs in the fourth inning to take the lead away from Saint Peter's.
- The next few innings were back and forth as Saint Peter's took an 11-9 lead in the seventh inning. Coppin State tied the game in the seventh with a hit by pitch RBI from Anthony DiVittorio and a double play that DiVittorio scored on.
- In the top of the ninth, Cotten hit his second home run of the game. That solo home run put Saint Peter's ahead by one run, 12-11.
- Coppin State pulled off the comeback for the one-run win.
- Saint Peter's won the series, 2-1.
- With the loss, Saint Peter's fell to a 2-5 season record.
Saint Peter's will travel to Fordham University on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
