JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball defeated Siena 75-53 at Run Baby Run Arena on Friday.
Corey Washington returned to the Peacocks' starting lineup in grand fashion. Washington exploded for a career-high 29 points, with six rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. The SPU sophomore shot 10-20 (50%) from the field.
It's the most points a Saint Peter's player has dropped in a game since Isiah Dasher scored 29 points in Saint Peter's 63-58 win over Quinnipiac (Dec. 18, 2022).
Michael Houge tallied his second career double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Randolph shot an efficient 3-5 (60%) from three-point range and finished with nine points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The Peacocks (12-11) sweep the season series over Siena and improve to 8-6 in the MAAC. The Peacocks (12-11) are currently sixth in the MAAC standings.
How It Happened
Washington was hot early in the first half. The Preseason All-MAAC honoree scored 15 of SPU's first 20 points. At the 9:35 mark, Armoni Zeigler threw down a dunk at the rim over Siena defenders, and SPU led 20-18.
Down the stretch, Washington closed out the half for SPU. In the final 6:30 seconds of the half, the SPU sophomore scored seven of SPU's last 12 points. The Peacocks were up 27-21 after Latrell Reid assisted Washington in the paint at the 5:40 mark. Saint Peter's led Siena 36-30 at halftime.
Marcus Randolph knocked down his third three-pointer of the game and SPU took a 44-36 advantage in the second half. The Saints cut the deficit to 44-41 before a 16-6 run propelled the Peacocks past the Saints. A three-pointer from Brent Bland capped the run and extended SPU's lead to 57-45 with 13:05 left in the game. Up 57-47, the Peacocks scored seven straight points. Michael Houge scored back-to-back buckets which included a layup and-one. Saint Peter's led 62-47 and closed out the game at 75-53.
