Clinton, S.C.- Saint Peter's Baseball fell to Presbyterian College, 10-2, on Friday afternoon in the season-opener.
The game ultimately slipped away from the Peacocks, but it was a learning experience for a new roster. The team got a feel for what the start of a 56-game season will be.
The first several innings were a pitcher's duel between Saint Peter's
Kurt Thomas and Presbyterian's Daniel Eagen. Saint Peter's opened up the scoring in the top half of the fifth when second baseman
Garrett Greco delivered an RBI double down the left field line that brought home
John Son.
In the next half inning, Presbyterian found their own offensive rhythm at the plate against Thomas. Trey Fenderson knocked in Rhogue Wallace with a triple to center field. Jackson Hugus gave Presbyterian a 2-1 lead following an RBI single to left field.
Presbyterian pulled away in the seventh inning after scoring six runs. The Blue Hose held on for a 10-2 win over the Peacocks. Thomas, who started the game, lasted four- and-one-third innings. On offense, the Peacocks recorded five hits in the loss.
The Peacocks will hit the field again on Saturday for a doubleheader against Presbyterian. These two games will be the middle part of a four-game set at Presbyterian.
