PEACOCKS WIN AT HOME AGAINST MANHATTAN 61-55, KUHL SECURES A SEASON HIGH OF 24 POINTS

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team secured their third conference win against Manhattan on Thursday night by a score of 61-55. Senior guard Rachel Kuhl led the Peacocks in points, netting a season high with 24.

HOW IT HAPPENED

During the first quarter, Kuhl got the offense rolling with an early back-to-back three-pointers. Freshman center Carys Roy scored in the paint, while graduate guard Maya Hyacienth shot beyond the three-point arc. The Jaspers rallied late but trailed 14-13 after one quarter of play. 

To begin the second quarter, the teams traded leads as sophomore guard Jada Leonard and Roy both scored in the paint to put Saint Peter's up 17-14. Graduate guard Mikia Keith added a triple to help the Peacocks maintain their lead and held a 22-21 at the break. 

Saint Peter's started off the second half with Kuhl shooting from downtown. Kuhl finished the third quarter with a total of 14 points. Kuhl connected three free throws, while following up with a fast break lay-up. Leonard ended the third quarter with a steal, giving the Peacocks possession going into the fourth quarter. The Jaspers took the lead 37-35 entering into the final quarter. 

At the start of the final quarter, Leonard scored a three-point goal that secured the lead of the Peacocks. Kuhl connected two back-to-back trifectas. Saint Peter's held off a late Manhattan run down the stretch, connecting on eight free throws in the final 30 seconds to secure the victory. Kuhl and Leonard each drained four from the charity stripe in the waning seconds to help the Peacocks earn their third conference win. 

Kuhl led the way with 24 points and four rebounds while shooting 5-for-8 from beyond the three-point arc. Roy posted 11 points and nine rebounds.

Next up, the Peacocks host Iona at Run Baby Run Arena where Saint Peter's has their Play4Kay game on Saturday, February 17th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2pm. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
