Men’s Basketball Outlasts Duquesne to Run Win Streak to Four

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Saint Peter's University men's basketball outlasted Duquesne University 62-59 as part of a balanced scoring attack and defensive battle.
 
The Peacocks push their win streak to four as the improve to 4-3, while the Dukes drop to 1-7.
 
Saint Peter's got off to a fast start as r-junior Mouhamed Sow recorded a dunk, while sophomore Armoni Zeigler drained a triple to help the Peacocks build an early three-point lead.
 
The Peacocks went through a seven-minute scoring drought, while the Dukes answered with 16 straight points to pull ahead 24-11 late in the opening half. Saint Peter's heated up over the final five minutes, closing the half on a 15-4 run. Sow sparked the rally and broke the Dukes run with a bucket. Junior Tyreck Morris added five points in the run with a bucket and a triple with just over a minute to play. Junior Eric Morgan Jr. keyed the backend of the run with a pair of three-pointers, the second coming in the final minute to slice the score to 28-26 at halftime.
 
The teams traded throughout most of the second half before the Peacocks took control late. With the score tied at 47 with eight minutes to play, Saint Peter's took control with an 8-1 run powered by r-freshman Bryce Eaton.
 
The rookie guard connected on two free throws and added a triple, while junior Zaakir Williamson capped the run with a three-point play at the 5:40 mark to put the Peacocks up 55-48. The Dukes winnowed the gap to one-point down the stretch at 57-56. Sow nailed a trifecta to essentially ice the game at the 1:27 mark. Sow added two free throws in the final minute with the Peacocks defense keeping Duquesne at bay to secure the win.
 
Sow led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Eaton chipped in 11 points, while r-senior Marcus Randolph totaled 11 points, four boards and two steals. Williamson totaled nine points and four rebounds, while graduate Stephon Roberts finished with nine boards and two blocks.

The Peacocks defense limited the Dukes to 36.5% shooting from the field and outrebounded the home team 42-37.
 
The Peacocks return to Run Baby Run Arena for their conference opener as they welcome MAAC foe Manhattan University on Friday, December 6 for a 7 pm tip. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
