LOWELL, Mass.- Saint Peter's University men's basketball senior
Marcus Randolph dropped in 16 points as the Peacocks fell to UMass Lowell 81-74 in a non-conference match-up.
Saint Peter's falls to 0-2, while the River Hawks improve to 2-0.
The River Hawks jumped out to an 18-12 lead with under nine minutes to play in the opening half. The Peacocks battled back with an 8-2 run as Randolph and r-junior
Brent Bland drained triples to pull even at 20. UMass Lowell made a late run to take a 37-28 lead at halftime.
UMass Lowell led by as much as 15 points early in the second half but the Peacocks winnowed their lead down to five points at 48-43 midway through the half on a free throw by r-junior
Mouhamed Sow.
The River Hawks pushed their lead back to double digits but Saint Peter's had one final rally in them. The Peacocks closed to within four points following a Sow three-pointer at the 2:29 mark. The teams traded points down the stretch as UMass Lowell hit seven free throws in the final minute to hold off the Peacocks comeback.
Randolph led the way with 16 points, shooting 3-for-9 from downtown, with four rebounds and two assists. Sow chipped in 14 points, eight boards and two blocks, while sophomore
Armoni Zeigler finished with 12 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Graduate
Stephon Roberts posted a team-best 11 boards along with two blocks.
Next up for the Peacocks is in-state rival Rutgers University on Monday, November 11 at the Jersey Mike's Arena in Piscataway at 7 pm. The game will be streamed on BIG+ Network.
