LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Saint Peter's Peacocks (5-16, 3-11 MAAC) displayed determination on the road but fell in three sets to the Siena Saints (6-20, 5-9 MAAC) at the UHY Center during Sunday's conference match.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1
Siena started the match with early momentum, taking the first three points thanks to two Saint Peter's errors and a service ace. The Peacocks quickly responded as Karolina Rodriguez notched their first kill, sparking a three-point run alongside kills from Skye Graham and Penelope Rivera, which narrowed the gap to 7-6. However, Siena managed to regain control, capitalizing on another kill and back-to-back Peacock errors to stretch their lead to 14-11. The Saints kept up the pressure, winning 11 of the next 17 points to close out the set with a 25-17 victory.
Set 2
The second set saw Siena take an early 2-0 lead, but the Peacocks answered with a block from Elena Bilhartz and Rivera. A run by the Saints increased their lead to 9-3, but Saint Peter's responded with kills from Rivera and Graham, and an ace by Maliyah Labrie to narrow the gap to 13-10. The Peacocks fought back to tie the set at 20, fueled by a Labrie kill, an ace by Danielle Caligiuri, and a Saints error. Though Valeria Pagan Munoz kept Saint Peter's in it with a late kill, the Saints held on to secure the set 25-23.
Set 3
Siena opened the third set on a quick run, extending their lead to 8-2. The Peacocks countered with a three-point push, featuring a kill by Pagan Munoz, a Saints error, and an ace by Bilhartz, bringing the score to 10-6. A rally from Saint Peter's, with kills by Bilhartz, Labrie, and Rivera, closed the deficit to 15-14. The Peacocks briefly took the lead at 18-17 after another four-point surge, but Siena responded with a four-point rally of their own to regain control at 21-18. Despite a late kill from Pagan Munoz, Siena claimed the final four points, securing the match with a 25-19 win.
