Men's Basketball Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win Over Iona 69-57

JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (7-5, 3-0 MAAC) picked up its fourth consecutive win over Iona (6-8, 1-2 MAAC) 69-57 Friday night at Run Baby Run Arena. This marked the first win over Iona since 2020, and the first four-game win streak during the regular season since 2022. Additionally, this is the first 3-0 start in MAAC play for Saint Peter's since the 2015.

Corey Washington led the Peacocks in points and rebounds. The SPU sophomore scored 20 points with nine rebounds, one block, and one steal. Washington shot 4-10 from the field and 1-1 from three-point range. SPU freshman Armoni Zeigler started and scored a career-high 14 points. Brent Bland shot 75% from three-point range (3-4) and dropped nine points. 

The Peacocks never trailed during the duration of the game and shot it well from beyond the arc. Saint Peter's outrebounded Iona 37-25 and shot 52% from three-point range (9/17). The Gaels shot 19-57 from the field and 8-29 from three-point range.

In the first half, the Peacocks jumped out to a 21-7 lead after they went on an 11-0 run. Bland, Latrell Reid, and Roy Clarke knocked down three-pointers and the run was capped when Washington stole the ball and Zeigler scored a fast-break layup on the other end with 8:20 left. With 4:21 left before halftime, Michael Houge scored a bucket and got fouled. After his free throw, the Peacocks were up 25-12. At halftime, Saint Peter's led 28-19. 

In the second half, the Peacocks extended their lead and maintained. The Gaels cut the deficit to 12 with 17 minutes left in the game. Three-pointers from Bland and Washington built the Saint Peter's lead to 44-26 with 12:34 left in the game. Down the stretch, Washington closed out the game for the Peacocks. The Arkansas native scored 14 of the last 28 points for the Peacocks as Saint Peter's won by 12. 

Next, the Peacocks will look for their fifth straight win when they host Mount St. Mary's (6-8, 2-1 MAAC) at Run Baby Run Arena on Sunday, Jan. 7.
