Latrell Reid Records Double-Double In Sixth Straight Win For Men's Basketball At Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's Men's Basketball team (9-5, 5-0 MAAC) extended its winning streak to six with a 81-68 victory over Manhattan (4-11, 1-5 MAAC) at Draddy Gymnasium Sunday. The Peacocks moved to 5-0 in conference play.

Latrell Reid recorded a double-double on 11 points and a career-high 11 assists. Reid distributed open looks and scored in double figures for the 10th time this season.  The last Saint Peter's player to record 10+ assists in a game was Mathew Lee vs. La Salle (11-27-20).

The Peacocks had four players score in double figures led by 17 points from Corey Washington. Washington scored 17 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. Roy Clarke played a team-high 29 minutes and dropped a season-high 15 points with two rebounds, two assists, and one block. Clarke went 5-9 (55%) from the field and 1-1 (100%) from three-point range. Armoni Zeigler matched a career-high 14 points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. 

Saint Peter's shot 27-58 (46.6%) from the field and scored 16 points off turnovers. Manhattan's Daniel Rouzan scored a team-high 22 points with six rebounds and four assists. 

How it Happened

  • A three-pointer and jump shot from Roy Clarke gave the Peacocks a 13-8 advantage early in the first half.

  • Later up 23-17, the Peacocks went on a 11-0 run that featured jump shots from Washington and Zeigler, four points from Clarke, and three points from Stephon Roberts. Free throws from Clarke extended the Peacocks lead to 34-17 with 4:51 left in the first half. 

  • The Jaspers closed out the half on an 11-0 run and cut the deficit to six at halftime. Manhattan's Briggs McClain added a basket, Shaquil Bender and Jaden Winston hit three-pointers and Rouzan tacked on four points in the final three minutes and thirty eight seconds of the first half.  

  • The Peacocks extended their lead in the second half and never trailed. 

  • Zeigler was cooking early in the second half. . Out of the gate, Reid connected with Zeigler on an alley-oop at the 19:45 mark. Zeigler scored six of the first seven points in the second half for the Peacocks. After Zeigler's third straight basket, Saint Peter's led Manhattan 43-36 with 15:32 left. 

  • A three-pointer from Manhattan's McClain cut the Peacocks lead to 45-43 at the 12:35 mark. Washington scored the next seven points for the Peacocks with a dunk in the paint, a three-pointer from the corner, and free throws. The SPU junior leads the Peacocks with PPG this season. 

  • In the final ten minutes, Saint Peter's kept Manhattan at distance. Reid closed out the game for the Peacocks. The Saint Peter's senior scored a layup and assisted on four straight baskets for the Peacocks . Reid found Clarke for two baskets, Mouhamed Sow for a layup in the paint, and Brent Bland for a perimeter three-pointer. At the 6:03 mark, Saint Peter's led Manhattan 65-50. 

  • From that point on, SPU cruised to victory over Manhattan. Free throws from Brent Bland stamped the 81-68 win. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Saint Peter's improved to 60-67-1 over the Jaspers all-time. 

  • The contest marks the 15th game in the last 18 SPU has held their opponent under 70 points. The Peacocks are 8-2 in such games this season.

  • The Peacocks' bench outscored the Jaspers' 25-12. 

  • SPU scored 38 points in the paint and 21 fast break points. 

  • SPU forced 14 Jasper giveaways in the game and picked up seven steals.

  • The Peacocks took the lead at the 16:45 mark in the first half and never trailed for the remainder of the game. 

Next, Saint Peter's (9-5, 5-0 MAAC) travels to Fairfield (9-7, 3-2 MAAC) on Friday, Jan. 19. The game tips off at 7 PM and will be on ESPN+.
