JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Saint Peter's University volleyball team is set to begin its regular season at the Bearcat Classic in Vestal, NY this weekend.
The Peacocks season opener is a non-conference matchup with Duquesne on Friday Aug. 5 at 4. This is the first match ever between these two programs. This marks head coach Joe Chojnaki's fifth season opener for the Peacocks. On Saturday Aug. 6, SPU faces a double header with Merrimack at 10:30 and host-school Binghamton at 4:30.
This offseason, Chojnaki brought in six new players to the team. Additionally, key returners for the Peacocks include Morgan Thurlow, Lilly Konrad, Elena Bilhartz, Sydney Kuzma, Mackenzie Tucker, and Skylee Nelson. SPU sophomore Billhartz had an impressive freshman campaign as she led the team in points with 247. Thurlow returns as the Peacocks kills leader from last year with 203. Konrad comes back after she notched a team-high 569 assists.
All three matches over the weekend will be streamed on ESPN+. Following this weekend the Peacocks travel to South Orange for a trio of matches at the Seton Hall Classic (Sep. 1-2.)
