Sam Haney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) drove in three runs, while junior
Rece Stapp (Keller, Texas) doubled twice as the Peacocks downed the LIU Sharks 13-10 in a non-conference game.
The Peacocks improve to 9-41 overall, while the Sharks fall to 17-32.
The Sharks jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the opening inning. The Peacocks answered in their half of the first as Haney singled home the first run for Saint Peter's. They added a run on an error, while junior
Joey Vitiello (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk to give the Peacocks a 3-2 lead.
LIU retook the lead with two runs in the second to pull ahead 3-2 but Saint Peter's tied the game at 4-4 as sophomore
Tyler Smith (Babylon, N.Y.) singled home the tying run.
Saint Peter's broke the game open with six runs in the fourth and added two runs in the sixth. Haney doubled in two runs in the inning, while junior
Sam Delcollo (Kennett Square, Pa.) and Stapp added run scoring singled. The Peacocks added two more runs in the fourth for a 10-4 lead.
In the sixth, Vitiello doubled in one run, while r-Fr.
Garrett Greco (Rostraver Township, Pa.) added an RBI single.
The Sharks sliced the score to 12-6 with two runs in the seventh, but the Peacocks added a run in the eighth on a run scoring single by senior
Anthony Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) to lead 13-7.
LIU closed the gap with four runs in the ninth to cut the score to 13-10 but junior
Zach Walker (Poway, Calif.) recorded the final out to earn his second save of the season.
Sophomore
Jack Gannon (Warwick, R.I.) earned the win, going the first five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Junior
Zach Frasher (Byron Center, Mich.) went 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing six runs on nine hits and struck out six. Walker faced one batter, earning the save to close out the win.
Abbatine went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and one double. Stapp added a 3-for-4 day with two runs scored, while Haney drove in three runs, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
The Peacocks added to their record-breaking season as they set two more single season program record in runs scored and runs batted in. They broke the single season runs scored record with 304 so far this season, breaking the previous mark of 300 in 2009. Also set in this game were the runs batted in record with 271 with the previous mark being 268 in 2007. These two records now make four offensive records set this season, having previously set the single season homerun record with 38 (previous mark of 31 in 2010) and base on balls with 237 (previous mark of 221 in 2009).
The Peacocks conclude their season on Saturday, May 20 as they host Fairleigh Dickinson University at 1 pm at Jaroschak Field for Senior Day.
