NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.- Saint Peter's University baseball junior
Sam Haney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and senior
Anthony Abbatine (Warwick, N.Y.) drove in three runs each as the Peacocks fell to Iona University 12-10 to close out their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference three-game series.
The Peacocks fall to 3-26 overall and 2-7 in the MAAC, while the Gaels improve to 6-22 and 2-4 in conference play.
Iona got on the board eight runs in the opening inning. The Peacocks rallied with five runs over the next four innings as Abbatine singled in a run in the second, while Haney blasted a three-run homerun in third. Abbatine added a run scoring single in the fifth to close the gap 8-5.
The Gaels tacked on four runs in the sixth inning to extend their lead to 12-5.
Saint Peter's battled back in the later innings with three runs in the seventh. Junior
Joey Vitiello (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk to force in one run, while Abbatine added a sacrifice fly. Junior
Nick Markantonatos (Portland, Ore.) doubled in two runs in the ninth but their rally fell short.
The Peacocks return home to take on Fairleigh Dickinson University on Wednesday, April 12 at 3 pm at Jaroschak Field.
