NEWARK, NJ.- The Saint Peter's men's basketball team opened up its 2023-24 campaign at the Prudential Center in a non conference matchup with Seton Hall.
Three Peacocks hit double-figures as SPU senior Latrell Reid scored a team-high 14 points. Reid shot 100% from three-point range and tied a career high. Additionally, Michael Houge dropped 11 points and Armoni Zeigler added 10 in their first game for Saint Peter's. Mouhamed Sow grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
The Peacocks and Pirates battled in the first half as Reid scored ten first half points. The Saint Peter's guard knocked down a jumper with 1:27 left and Saint Peter's held a 27-26 advantage at halftime. The second half was tight as there were 11 lead changes and the Peacocks shot 45% from three-point range. SPU trailed 54-53 after a Ziegler three-pointer with 6:16 left. With under a minute to play, Ziegler caused a turnover and threw down a highlight-reel dunk. The Pirates closed out the game on a 16-6 run and defeated the Peacocks 70-59.
The Peacocks displayed depth as they outscored Seton Hall 29-10 in bench points. Seton Hall was led by Kadary Richmond who scored 18 points.
Next, Saint Peter's travels to Newark, NJ for a matchup with NJIT on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tip-off is set for 4:00 and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
