Peacocks Capture Road Win at LIU

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Saint Peter's Women's Basketball team had an outstanding performance tonight that led to the squad defeating LIU 63-54.

The Peacocks started off tonight during the first quarter with a 3-0 lead. The Sharks cut into that lead, but the Peacocks bounced back at the end of the second quarter. Freshman forward Fatmata Janneh had a total of seven points during the first quarter. She finished the game with her second career double-double and a season-high of 17 points.

Freshman Carys Roy had a total of seven points and two assists while shooting 1-2 from the floor and 5-5 from the free throw line. Roy played a role on the defensive side of the ball as well with 3 rebounds.

After the half, Saint Peter's quickly bounced back and owned a 52-46 lead into the fourth quarter. For over two minutes, the Peacock's fought hard to take on the lead. Sophomore guard Jada Leonard started off the third quarter with a 3 point goal. Leonard finished the night with a season-high 20 points while shooting 50% from three. She also stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds and four assists. 

Saint Peter's pulled down 38 rebounds as a team in Thursday's game, led by Janneh's 11 boards. On the defensive side, the squad forced 20 LIU turnovers. The team had 7 steals courtesy of Graduate Student Maya Hyacienth, Sophomore Reilly Sunday, Leonard, Janneh and Graduate Student Mikia Keith.
