JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Saint Peter's men's basketball team faced Umass Lowell (4-1) in a nonconference game at Run Baby Run Arena on Monday. The Peacocks (1-3) dropped their home opener 69-61.
Latrell Reid scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed a team-high four rebounds. The SPU senior shot 6/11 FG and 1/1 from three-point range. Marcus Randolph scored 10 points. This marked the third consecutive game Randolph has scored in double figures.Â
The Peacocks and River Hawks competed in a tight first half. Umass Lowell tacked on a three pointer and extended its lead to 32-26 in the first half with 2:02 left before halftime. With time winding down in the first half Reid heaved a shot near half court and netted it as time expired. The River Hawks led 34-29 at halftime.Â
Early into the second half Saint Peter's went on a 6-0 run that was highlighted by jump shots from Roy Clarke and Brent Bland. The run gave the Peacocks a 42-39 advantage at the 15:10 mark. Umass Lowell responded with a 11-0 run that was capped off with a three pointer with 10:39 remaining. The River Hawks shot 52% FG in the second half and shot 41% from three point range. The Peacocks shot 33% from three point range and shot 37% FG for the game. Umass Lowell closed out the game at 69-61.
Next, Saint Peter's will take on Rutgers (5-1) on the road on Monday, Nov. 27.Â
