JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team(1-1) took on their first win of the season against CCSU(0-3) 61-57.
Fatmata Janneh was a lead scorer tonight for the Peacocks, she had a total of 15 points. Janneh grabbed 13 rebounds and gained her first-career double-double. Jada William shot 5-7 FG and Janneh shot 7-8 FG. Additionally, Reilly Sunday and Jada Williams each dropped 12 points.
On defense, the Peacocks fought hard to hold the Blue Devils scoreless until the 6:18 mark in the first quarter. Williams had a total of 3 blocks and Layla Laws had 2 steals. The Peacocks sparked offensively in the first quarter as Leonard, Sunday and Laws helped lead 8-0 in the 7:18 mark. SPU led CSSU 31-19 at half time.
During the second half the Peacocks continued to work hard. With just 6 second left, Senior Rachel Kuhl made a layup leading the Peacocks 61-57. Following that, seconds before the buzzer Williams made a block leading Coach Leedham to her first win.
The Peacocks head to the Midwest on Wednesday, November 15th against the University of Illinois. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
