Jersey City, N.J.- The Saint Peter's University women's soccer team defeated Iona University, 3-2, on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Jaroschak Field.
Game Notes
- Before the game, Saint Peter's held a senior day ceremony for seniors Leslie Pineda and Iva Trifunovic. The rain tried to dampen the mood, but the spirits were high for two excellent Peacocks.
- The weather played a factor in the game, but the Peacocks battled through the tough playing conditions with two first half goals from Joana Dias and Gianna Grassifulli.
- In the second half, the game appeared to be locked up by the Peacocks. However, the Gaels had other plans after Samantha Hogan and Sofia Giamanco scored 30 seconds apart from each other in the 63rd minute.
- In the 65th minute, Dias took a penalty kick for Saint Peter's and registered her second goal of the afternoon, which proved to be the game-winning goal.
Inside The Numbers
- Even in tough playing conditions, both teams attacked on offense. Iona manufactured 16 shots to Saint Peter's 10 shots.
- Annabelle Adams recorded seven saves for the Peacocks.
