Volleyball Plays Thrilling Third Set, Falters in Sunday Matinee at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, NY – The Saint Peter's women's volleyball lost three sets to none against Iona on Sunday.

Freshman Elena Bilhartz was the Peacocks leading scorer on the day, tallying 5 kills and 5.5 points.

Match Notes

Iona was able to jump out to an 11-1 lead in the first set and they never looked back. The Gaels proceeded to finish the first set on a three point streak and win 25-8
The Peacocks played the Gaels close to start the second set, as Saint Peter's kept it within five points for a majority of the set. Iona then proceeded to go on a seven point run to win the second set 25-12.
The Peacocks and Gaels went back and forth in a thrilling third set that needed overtime to decide it, but Iona grabbed the last two points of the match. They went on to win the third set 28-25.

Inside the Numbers

Freshman Morgan Thurlow tied for the team lead with 5.5 points.
Camille Thoennes and Lillian Konrad had one ace apiece.
Freshman Laken Dillion led the team with nine digs.
Konrad also lead the team with a .667 hitting percentage.
The Gaels out-attacked the Peacocks in total attacks (97-84), hitting percentage (.289-.024), and service aces (11-2).
